Getting to Ko-Phangan from Ko-Phi Phi with child

After our family spend 3 great nights on Phi Phi islands we had to move forward. Our next planned place is Koh-Phangan , we are about to stay here for a month.Getting back to yoga, quiet and relaxation. I must admit we didn’t prepared to this trip, everything was so easy by now and I forgot to check transportation details in depth, we had some brochure that said something about getting from Phi Phi to Koh-Phangan with a ferry, but we didn’t check it in depth.

After I did a check with local travel agencies , I found that there is no direct transportation between the islands.

The choices in front of us were.

  • 9:00 Ferry to Krabi , 12:30 Bus to Surat Thani , 16:30 ferry to Koh-Phangan with estimated arrival time at 16:00.
  • 10:00 Ferry to Krabi , 12:30 Bus to Surat Thani , 16:30 ferry to Koh-Phangan with estimated arrival time at 16:00.

For some reason the final arrival time was the same and the 10:30 ferry was cheape, so we decided on second option.

First part went easy, we arrived to Krabi and took the bus. The bus was full of Israeli people, I was surprised that no other people are are using this route. The bus was slow and old, we got to Surat Thani with 30 minutes delay.

The ferry to Ko-Phangan was on the pier waiting for us. At minute people from the bus got on the ferry it started his way.

It was a crazy drive, the sea was with high waves, and the ferry was jumping on the water like a small boat. Half of the people got sick on the board including my wife and child, we spend the last part of the trip on the dock, trying to get some air.
So listen to my advise. NEVER GOT ON A FAST FERRY BOAT WITH YOUR CHILD.
To keep it on time, the captain floats fast and don’t care about boat passengers condition. It was bad, many people felt bad and the crew was completely useless, the even didn’t have plastic bags.I guess they are used to see such things on daily basis.

I’ll never step in to one of those ships, it is better to spend few more hours on the road than taking care 2 family members who fill deasiness on a boat.

Eventually we got to Koh-Phangan at 19:00 and after 15 minutes we got to the resort I’ve booked for our first days.
It was a very hard day and in future we will plan our route more carefully.
